Travel Anxiety

    Post 126 of 198

It’s holiday time again. But while some are looking forward to jetting off to foreign parts what about those who panic at the thought of going away? Most people who would have travel anxiety would already be highly sensitive people and may struggle with change.

If for example you are travelling abroad you may experience time differences. You may even experience jetlag which to the highly sensitive person could create such unbalance that a high state of anxiety follows.

Remember anxiety is often a fear or a constant dread of having no control over something important. A useful question to ask before setting off is, ‘What can I do to feel safe?’ This could mean bringing something familiar like a book, some music or even food from home to create a sense of familiarity, a home away from home. If you’re an introverted person try to create a space where you can be alone for a while each day, to read, or just be alone with your thoughts.

As each day passes feel how easier and more familiar it becomes and the anxiety lessens. Perhaps keep a diary to help remind you of how you overcame the travel anxiety to help make next year easier.
