Relationship Counselling

There was a time when relationship counselling was known as marriage guidance. Sometimes it is known as marriage counselling. Relationship counselling is now broader than just married couples, but for everyone involved in a relationship with another person.

One of the things at the core of a relationship is us wanting to feel significant to someone. Quite often our sense of identity and self-worth can depend on the strength of our relationships and where we think we sit in them. If it is an unhealthy relationship or if it begins to fail then our self esteem begins to suffer, we fall into despair, resentment and so on.

However some relationships have a natural lifespan. That lifespan may be a year or fifty years but a lifespan none the less. It’s okay for the relationship to move from being one of a romantic nature to something else. The relationship doesn’t have to end in bitterness.

Counselling can help the way people communicate and relate to each other. It can help them understand what lies behind current thoughts and feelings. Even if circumstances don’t change you may both gain a better understanding of yourselves and each other to help inform better choices and decisions.
