Learning to Let Go

    Post 178 of 198

When we recognize that anxiety is having a real fear of having no control over something very important to us, then we need to acknowledge there are some things we do not have any control over and can free ourselves by learning to let go. We cannot change the past yet we seem to drag it round with us, beat ourselves and others over the head with it rather than letting it inform us, We cannot control other peoples thoughts and feelings yet look how hard we try sometimes, and look how frustrated we get when others try to control us. We can’t control the future, we can at best only influence it so why put ourselves through such torment in these areas?

There is a cost with being controlling. The impact is not only on us and our well-being, but also on those we love, the people we work with, and everyone around us. Among other things it can cost us our peace, freedom, creativity, support, happiness etc

Letting go does not mean we don’t care about, it means we don’t care for. Learning to let go of what we can’t control and manage what we can, can lead to a healthier state of mind. Letting go can sometimes be one of the most courageous yet liberating things we’ll ever do.
