Binge Eating

    Post 193 of 198

What is binge eating? Most of us over eat now and then. We all like occasionally taking an extra helping at dinner or having extra dessert when you’re already full. But for binge eaters, overeating is regular and can feel uncontrollable. It can be overeating at mealtimes or constantly snacking.

Binge eaters may use food to cope with stress and other negative emotions, and by its habitual and at times impulsive nature can sometimes leave people feeling worse afterwards rather than better.

It can seem like being stuck in a vicious cycle. For example the worse someone feels the more they may eat to try to relieve the emotional pain, the more they eat the less in control and unhappy they feel so on an on it goes.

But binge eating can be manageable and treatable with the right help and support. With the help of a therapist in counselling you can learn regulate your feelings and develop healthy interventions to address the urges and impulses to indulge. You can learn to manage and control your eating and develop a healthy relationship with food.
